Ride for Reading Week Highlight
Inspired after participating in a Ride for Reading Delivery at Interbike in 2013, Western Nevada Safe Routes to Schools Coordinator, Cortney Bloomer, knew that bringing the event to Northern Nevada would become an important part of their program.
Embraced by schools across the region for the focus on literacy, Ride for Reading promotes bike safety and reading in a way that’s fun for kids and volunteers alike. The program has grown to 8 deliveries across 3 counties in 2018. Through the generosity of program sponsor Better World Books, Ride for Reading continues to flourish in Western Nevada.During National Ride for Reading Week, Western Nevada hosted 8 deliveries to the following Title 1 schools:
Yerington Elementary – 5/23/18 CC Meneley – 5/22/18
Eagle Valley – 6/1/18 Pinion Hills – 5/25/18
Scarselli – 5/3/2018 Riverview – 5/15/2018
Cottonwood – 5/30/2018 Bordewich-Bray – 5/23/18
National Ride for Reading Week
National Ride For Reading Week is an annual nationwide effort in which volunteer cyclists bring our mission to their town by hosting book deliveries to Title 1 Schools in their communities. It’s the biggest week of the year! May is National Bike Month and we encourage cyclists to use a Ride For Reading delivery as part of their local celebrations.
Shown below is a list of the 23 cities that participated in Ride for Reading Week 2018 with deliveries hosted the entire month!
THANK YOU to all of our local Ride for Reading Coordinators for putting these events together in your cities and to all the volunteers that donated their time to spread the Ride for Reading mission to help more children become healthy and literate. We LOVED seeing all of your photos and to witness the excitement of this event all across the U.S. You are all making a difference!
We hope to see you all next year for Ride for Reading Week 2019! Mark your calendars for May 5-11, 2019!
